Books & Music
Your instructor will choose books and/or printable pieces for the student, with input from both the student and the parent. No purchases will be finalized without parent approval.
I will purchase materials myself and send them home with the student. The cost will be added to the invoice emailed to the parent for that month.
Please communicate your expectations for how much you want to spend on materials for your student, and how often you can expect to need new materials.

Piano & Other Materials
I prefer that the student has an acoustic piano to practice on. If not, an electric piano is fine as long as it meets the following requirements: 88 weighted keys, a sturdy music stand, and at least one pedal.
Acoustic pianos should be tuned once a year, and all pianos should be dusted as often as possible. (I'm still working on this one...)

- A book bag to keep your lesson books together in
- A pencil/colored pencils
- A metronome (most electric pianos come already equipped with one)
- I will provide a three-ring binder for printed music and other materials
Scheduling
Lesson times are available Monday through Friday, ending before 6:30 pm. I will do my best to work with you to find a time that is convenient for you and your family.
Times available will vary. Siblings will be given priority to be scheduled back-to-back. Students who homeschool or have early release are encouraged to schedule lesson times earlier in the day.
Lesson times will get a "refresh" every September, January, and June. This doesn't mean your lesson time necessarily has to change. We will just adjust as needed at these times.
Special activities such as recitals, field trips, group classes, or master classes will be scheduled at least a month in advance. Email announcements and reminders will be sent.

Missed Lessons, Make-up Lessons, & Rescheduling
Please notify me at least 24 hours in advance if you need to miss a lesson. If you do so, you will receive a credit for a make-up lesson. Missing a lesson without proper notification will receive no make-up credit.
Consider trying a Video Chat lesson if you are ill (contagious) or out of town!
If the instructor must cancel a lesson last-minute, a make-up credit will be given.
Your family's total make-up credits can be found in the "Notes" section of the monthly invoice.
Make-up credits may be traded between siblings.
There will be a week every few months when there will be no regular lessons scheduled. These "make-up weeks" are reserved for students to spend their make-up credits.
A make-up credit is not a tuition discount. Make-up credits expire after every "make-up week". If a student does not schedule a make-up lesson to spend their make-up credit, no tuition refund will be given.
Vacations:
If disclosed before the monthly invoice goes out, lessons can be cancelled in anticipation of family vacations. These cancelled lessons will simply be left off the invoice. No make-up credit will be given.
Vacations do not mean discontinuation.

Discontinuation
Discontinuation means forfeiting your studio membership. Family vacations do not mean discontinuation. Pausing lessons due to overscheduling or similar conflicts mean discontinuation. Studio members who discontinue may request to be added to the waitlist.
Please make the decision to continue or discontinue music lessons thoughtfully. Communicate openly with me about your child's needs. I do my best to cater to each student and help them in every way I can.
If you choose to discontinue lessons at DAPS, the parent will be held responsible for tuition payment for the remainder of that month. Payment will be due the 15th of the month, as usual. I reserve the right to dismiss any student due to lack of practice, respect, or interest.
Waitlisted Students
There are a limited number of spots available in the studio. When there are no spots available, interested students may submit a registration form and be added to the waitlist.
Waitlisted students will be invited to attend group lessons, parties, and other events for the same rate as studio members. Waitlisted students will also be notified of recital dates and invited to attend.
When a studio member discontinues and their spot in the studio becomes available, the student at the top of the waitlist will be invited to take that place and schedule their weekly lesson.
Studio members who discontinue may request to be added to the waitlist.

Tuition
Tuition and fees are due on the 15th every month. An invoice will be emailed to the parent email. Tuition and fees may be paid in the following formats:
On the 16th of the month, if there is an unpaid balance, a $5 late fee will be applied to the family's balance. Every 7 days that this balance remains unpaid, another $5 late fee will be added. Any time a late fee is applied, a notification email will be sent to the parent's email.
Tuition is calculated based on the number of lesson weeks each month. Tuition also covers any special activities we may have. This may include group lessons, field trips, master classes, or recitals. There typically will not be a private lesson the week of/the week after a special activity.
Tuition Rates: *Effective September 2024
30 minute: $28.65
45 minute: $41.90
60 minute: $55.13
Discounts and fees may apply. Details will be outlined in each monthly invoice. As always, contact me with any questions.
